NanoMatMol Award 2011 at the doctoral thesis of Claudia Custodia Delgado Simao granted for the specialist group of nanoscience and molecular materials of Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ). The thesis was co-directed by Prof. Concepció Rovira and Dr Marta Mas and is entitled "Surface self-assembly of electroactive molecules as wires and switches". The research presented in this doctoral thesis is centered on the preparation of molecular devices on surfaces, inside the molecular electronics field. For this purpose, two families of electroactive compounds were employed: the polychlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) radicals and tetrathiafulvalenes (TTFs), which were designed to obtain specific electronic and structural characteristics for their application on molecular switches on surface and molecular junctions.
